Trying to find our way around unfamiliar areas in Surrey, the car satnav got confused and a detour took us past this exquisite folly near Godalming. Once we found our way back to the A3 I said to Dave ‘I wonder what that lovely little house was?’ He said: ‘It’s Witley Park’. Luckily the road was deserted as I stamped the brake with surprise. Witley Park is the private estate – once an immense house – that has the original of the underwater room I featured in Lifeform Three.
